Hope Dies Last

Part of the British Film Council Short Support Scheme

“Hope Dies Last” is based on real events.
I heard a report on radio 4 outlining Jösef’s life.
I felt his story needed to be told. The nature of fear, cruelty, mental torture. But shown as part of a very mundane and ordinary action, that of a haircut. We wanted a style of shooting that would give the simplest visual , so the audience became more and more involved in Jösef’s inner fear. It’s a story we might not be familiar with. A story we should be familiar with.
